Messaging & Calls

Encrypted chat, real carrier SMS, voice and video, stories, and media in one thread.

Encrypted WenYou chats

What is it?

Text messages over the internet encrypted with Signal Protocol. They are not stored on the server in readable form.

Where?

Home → Chats tab (center of the bottom bar)

How to start a new chat?

Tap + (bottom right)
  → People tab
    → pick a person
      → chat opens

How it works

Type in the field at the bottom
Tap send (or Enter if enabled in settings)
The message is encrypted on your device and sent over the internet
Checks: ✓ sent → ✓✓ delivered → colored ✓✓ read

Local SMS

What is it?

View and send SMS from your phone directly — without the WenYou server.

Where?

Home → SMS tab (far right of the bottom bar)

How it works

The app reads SMS via the Telephony API on your device
SMS conversations appear as a list separate from WenYou chats
Sending uses the SIM / carrier directly

Note: Some advanced WenYou features (screenshot block, Signal encryption…) do not apply to local SMS.

Voice calls

What is it?

Internet voice call (VoIP).

Where?

From a chat:

Open a chat → tap the phone icon (top of the chat)

From the Calls tab:

Home → Calls → tap + or pick from history

How it works

The app connects to the other party via Agora
Call screen buttons: mute, speaker, end
After the call an optional rating may appear

Video calls

What is it?

Video call with camera.

Where?

Open a chat → tap the camera icon (top of the chat)

How it works

Camera and microphone permission may be requested
Video screen with camera preview
You can switch front/back camera

Photos, video, and files

What is it?

Share encrypted media (photos, video, documents, audio).

Where?

Inside a chat → + (next to the input)
  → Photo / Video / File / Voice recording / Contact

How it works

Pick a file from gallery or camera
The file is encrypted with a random key (WYF3) before upload
The other party decrypts it locally

Offline mode

What is it?

Temporarily reject WenYou messages and calls — without cutting the phone's internet.

Where?

Home → Wi-Fi icon (top right)

State	Meaning
On	You are unavailable in WenYou
Off	Messages and calls arrive again

This does not disable browser internet. Only WenYou ignores incoming messages and calls.

Stories / Status

Post:

Home → + (top right)
  or: Settings → Profile → Add story

View: tap the story ring around a person's photo.

Stories last 24 hours (photo or text).

My QR code

Where?

Settings → tap your profile (photo/name) → My QR code

The other person scans it to add you or start a chat.

Edit a message

Long press your message → Edit. Only within a limited time after sending.

Reply

Long press → Reply, or swipe the message right.

Call rating

Appears automatically after a voice/video call ends.

Media

Photos, video, voice, files

Shared in the thread. Online media is end-to-end encrypted before upload.

Relay for transit

The server is not a permanent public gallery. Media is deleted from the relay after delivery per retention policy.

Disappearing media

Use the chat’s disappearing-messages timer. A separate public “view once” product name is not specified beyond that timer.

Voice & Video Calls

Instant voice and video calls between WenYou contacts
Call history log viewable per contact (can be empty)
Per-contact call blocking toggle

Per-contact: block calls from someone, or mute call notifications from someone.
Call history is stored per contact (the log can be empty).

Internet required

Voice and video calls require an internet connection. WenYou does not publicly specify an offline or SMS-triggered call fallback.

Status / Stories

WenYou includes a dynamic status and stories feature inside the messaging app.

Post status updates visible to your contacts according to your settings
Per-contact visibility: hide your stories from a specific person, or hide their stories from you
Instant deletion when you remove a story

Post over the internet, or as plain text via SMS when that path is used.
Hide from specific people, delete instantly, and send reactions on stories.

Status sync requires internet when using the online layer. Additional SMS-encoded story behavior may apply in SMS-only scenarios — not publicly specified in full detail yet.
