WenYou security model: end-to-end encrypted online messages, app and chat locks, and per-chat screenshot controls.
End-to-end encryption (online messages)
WenYou encrypts online messages end-to-end. Specific protocol names, algorithms, and key-management details beyond this are not publicly specified yet.
SMS is different
Carrier SMS is not end-to-end encrypted by WenYou in the same way as online messages. Treat SMS location links and text accordingly.
App and chat lock
Fingerprint-based lock for the whole app and for individual chats. Lock can be turned off per chat — it is not forced on every conversation.
Screenshot handling
Per-chat screenshot controls exist. Operating systems limit how completely screenshots can be blocked; WenYou does not over-promise OS-level blocking on every platform.
Content filter
Abusive-language filtering is a moderation feature. See Features; it is not a substitute for encryption.
Not claimed
Zero-knowledge architecture, zero metadata collection, military-grade encryption, and security certifications are not claimed unless publicly verified.
Conversation Privacy
Chat lock, hidden chats, screenshot protection, and disappearing messages are conversation controls — not four unrelated products.
Chat Lock
PIN or fingerprint per conversation. Unlock that chat to read it; other chats can stay unlocked.
Hidden Chats
Hidden behind the WenYou title on the home list. Unlock with an access code; some chats can stay visible while others stay hidden.
Screenshot Protection
Optional per chat. OS limits still apply; this is not a guarantee on every device. Online chats only — not local SMS.
Disappearing Messages
Per-chat timer. New messages in that chat delete after the chosen duration. View-once-style media uses the same disappearing controls where configured.
Voice and video call path
Voice and video calls require internet. End-to-end encryption is confirmed for online messages and for media files encrypted before upload. A public specification for call-audio/video encryption is not published yet — do not describe calls as Signal-encrypted unless a later official source says so.
Media and the relay server
Online photos, video, voice notes, and files are encrypted on the device before upload. The relay is for transit, not a permanent public album; media is removed from the relay after delivery according to the retention policy. Carrier SMS/MMS is ordinary carrier traffic and is not end-to-end encrypted.
Safety
Block a contact
WenYou supports number blocking and per-contact call blocking. Use conversation settings or privacy tools in the app.
Report abuse
Email contact@wenyou.app or open an issue on GitHub if you need to report abuse or safety concerns.
Location sharing safety
Location shared via SMS is not protected by WenYou's end-to-end encryption the same way as online messages. Only share location with people you trust. You can use GPS-Lock and per-contact privacy controls where available.
Disable location sharing
Revoke location permissions in system settings and disable rapid-access or location features in WenYou privacy settings.
